THE OLD STONES OF CORNWALL PARK, Watercolor Painting Landscape, Auckland, New Zealand

I like the quirky look of the building.  The positioning of the big old tree on the high ground summarizes the philosophy of the park designer.  It looks like the hobbit dwelling.  It was a nice day in the park.  I did a sketch then rough in the colors, tree foliage and stones.  I was a bit terrified even at the thought but I did that before.  Jumping in with a wet brush then figure that out.  It was a good experience!  I threw a few more stones with moss on them to make them look original in the foreground and to strengthen the composition!  Must say I finished details of the stones in mid ground at home, giving time to a cup of tea!

Standing in the magnificent park that was created and donated to the city of Auckland by Sir John Logan Campbell.  A Scotsman who chose to live poor so the country he loved can live rich.  These old stones remind me of the Stone of Scotland.  Through my outdoor paintings in the park, I came to know a great person, John Logan Campbell and the culture he came from.  I know Sir Campbell is just an individual.  I know I only touch a leaf in the forest, the forest of Scotland.

LUNCH BREAK AT THE VILLAGE, Watercolor Painting Landscapes, Auckland, New Zealand

A lunch hour in the village was painted to depict the life style of the village.  In main city it would be called the "Rush Hour" when every body has to hurry up or miss the lunch.  The more flexible life style of the village holds its appeal to everyone from new born to retired.  I tried to paint the village atmosphere that enhances the accommodating and compromising life style where everybody feels belong.

Just love the fresh morning air in this painting.  I love fresh, a lot of fresh air.  It's the easiest way to blow daily stress away...  I wish everybody a wonderful day with a lot of creativity and fresh air from the south Pacific!

HOME and GARDEN, Watercolor Painting Landscapes, Auckland, New Zealand

One of the characters of the village is a mix of architecture homes.  This painting was started outdoor and finished at home.  Sitting on the green of St Heliers rise, one of a scenic area of the village, I do a careful sketch and made notes of details of textures.  I painted as much on site as I could.  Fine details were added at home when memories were still fresh!

Walking the dog is a popular activity in the village.  The old houses and slightly overgrown garden, parks and beaches were main features of the suburb.  I painted the scene to record the lifestyle of the village, peace and harmony.

Another view of the village, another aspect of outdoor painting!.  It a semi outdoor.  I stood up and made a sketch on site and go home to finish it.  There were a lot of noise, traffic and by walkers.  Sometimes I had to sit down and wait for the bus and trucks to go away then stood up and refocused.  It was also a fantastic day for a no rush coffee at this sea front village.  So I made a lot of observations while enjoying the drink as an excuse for half done the job!

This is an old village in a very fast changing city.  The commercial pressure in a city like Auckland is enormous.  There are a lot of interests in the area.  I do not know how long the easy feel of a seaside village will be replaced with modern up market type of buildings.  I painted these scenes to share the traditional local lifestyle in the village atmosphere that has been treasured for generations.  It's where their memories linger, their hearts feel home!

THE RED SHED, Watercolor Painting Landscape

In the world of small sheds in New Zealand, probably this is the most famous red shed.  She is the heritage of the town.  Inside her is the history of Glenorchy.  Glenorchy is a small settlement at the northern end of Lake Wakatipu in the South Island region of Otago, New Zealand.  Surrounded with lovely foliage, In front of her is the lake behind is the mountains.  The heritage of this place is millions mouth watering views!  It's the look of love!  Just look! She's the Red Riding Hood!
I have painted 9 paintings of this charming village where many major film production took place.

COTTAGE IN THE FIELD, Watercolor Painting Landscape

Among mountains, forest and fields is a place called home.  Charming like a princess, this cottage caught my eyes.  And here she is!  Isn't that lovely!  I love the natural light balance in this striking setting and the same time embracing the rural, rugged, magnificent and charming features of the place!  I wonder what would people think when all these were painted to depict the beauty of a simple life!

VENICE GONDOLAS (1), Postcards Watercolor Painting Venice, Italy

The gondolas were designed for riders to have fun with the sea.  Guests do not have to wait for the waves.  The shape of the gondolas with skilled boat men can offer any type of waves to please the visitors.  The sea was waiting at the door of the hotel room...  After a ride, I guest the night would be filled with dreams from the sea!  Once again, it was a fun and challenging painting process!  One can easily sweep the scene with monotone moody colors.  But I wanted the scene with tone, atmospheric.. excitement and passion!  It was tough!  I wonder who would not wanted the same thing when hitting the scene like this in Venice! Enjoy!

GONDOLAS AND THE PRINCESS WINDOW, Postcards Watercolor Painting Venice

I love this painting because I always love fancy features on old buildings.  They gave a hint of the presence of a little princess somewhere.  It was a notion of dream.  I love the window above the waiting gondolas.  It was a bit like the story of Cinderella with the pumpkin carriage hence, the title the picture.  I like the little bridge too.  I added two little figures to complete the romance scene of the place

GONDOLAS OF VENICE, Postcards Watercolor Painting Venice, Italy

Together the gondolas created an interesting shapes with their reflection onto the colorful water of Venice.  Circled by character period buildings with old features, the gondolas created a sleepy cozy feel of a sleeping city.  It was another intense painting process. Mood, atmospheric, character .. and everything that can seep into wonderful memories!

MORNING IN VENICE WITH GONDOLAS, Postcards Watercolor Painting Venice

I tried to balance the mood and atmospheric of Venice and deep vibration colors of the scene.  I gazed at the organic feel of Venice water, the feature and the architecture of old building, the rich texture of the old brick wall and their reflection onto the deep water.  The pair of gondolas moored cozily close together in front of the three star hotel, Lisnona, toward the open sea echoed the romance of the place.  It was an intense painting process.  Finally, I got to enjoy the treat of the finishing touch, a few strokes on the wall of the hotel to note the brick work!.

MORNING BY THE MARSH LAND, Watercolor Painting Landscape

Natural flowering flax bushes lined the grass path,  the soothing green blend in with house at the water edge bordering the main city.  The city center was marked with the sky tower, an elegant focal.  I love them all. The mesmerizing effect of blue and green was captured with impressionist technique.  I added the neighbor boat to mark a dream!

I was very lucky to be able to enjoy these beautiful outdoor painting locations.  They became part of my memories.  I love the rural effect in the city.  After painting we could have a cup of tea somewhere in a top class garden center or just hanging around for more sketches..

QUIET WATER AUCKLAND HARBOR, Watercolor Painting Cities, Towns, Villages

Time for another outdoor painting,  time to synchronize with natural elements in nature.  It's the morning at a quiet harbor in the city while everyone else heading to work.  I sat and sip in the atmosphere and set to paint.  Love the way sky and clouds were brought down on to water surface.  It made the boats float in heaven!  A moment like this I think it's heaven on earth!  I feel lucky!

Mt EDEN VILLAGE (1), Watercolor Painting Cities, Towns, Villages

Love the bold architecture of Mt Eden village, one of the oldest suburbs of Auckland city.  The buildings were full of characters.  The coffee was good.  The atmosphere was terrific.  This is the place many generations have called it home.  Using high key contrast and bold brush I tried to record the brilliant moment among the charm of these wonderful old buildings.

It was a beautiful morning, great day for outdoor painting.  I love the elegant look of Auckland city from Orakei reserve.  Fresh air and pleasant weather It is a real treat.  Not just the day was dazzling, the bushes, boats, water, sky and city and all puzzled me as well.  It’s a challenge to capture the atmosphere and the elegance of the view regarding all the elements that I wanted to be part of the painting.  I stood on the slope and made a sketch.  Quickly I threw the colors in while gazing at the view.  When I stopped, I realized the picture was almost finished.  It was the thrill of a quiet day!  and Yes!  I love the charming green with the morning fresh of this city!
