Fever Few, Plant for Climate Change Garden, Ballpoint

This is a herbal plant that has some properties to be used for arthritis and migraine. I t is spreading and randomness with daisy like white flowers. It does not need much care. It can grow on poor soil, clay bank and cope with change in climate. The height about 1m make it ideal for backdrop of lower flowering plant, random in with taller flowering plant or just by themselves. It is an ideal feature for Fairy tale style cottage garden. For those who love simplicity, masses of pure white flowers against dark green is as fresh as a glass of champagne in a hot day.

I like to mix the random masses of fever few daisy whites with blue, mauve hydrangea and roses...

I do not like the taste of Fever Few much. Then I look at the behaviour of insects in the garden. They seem not to like these flowers either. The bees touched them and then moved away. Then I realised the plant can be used to deter insects. While loving nature, not many of us like to be disturbed all the time by buzzing insects.
I had a bite from a yellow jacket sometimes ago.  I was sore for three days. On a positive note, I think it was good for my immune system!..  It also raised my level of alertness and increased my observation skills! :-).  I think to have peace in the flowering garden, I'll have a place for myself. I think I'll plant fever few where I'd like to sit for a relaxing moment away from the buzzing bees!

When other plants are struggle with change in climate, this plant thrives without hard work, takes care of health as herbal, relaxes the mind with lively, elegant images and take care of the bees for your moment in the garden. It is indeed a fairy!

Chamomile and the Bees, Ballpoint Art

Here is a ballpoint sketch from my garden seat. Masses of small white flowers with protruded centres, slender stalks and delicate leaves are features of Chamomile.

Chamomile is a herbal plant. It grows anywhere. Chamomile tea is also popular, very affordable. I have a few in the garden just for the pleasure of having it in full circle. I keep looking at plants that are performing well in all aspect of climate change. It is a sign of low maintenance so that I do not have to make constant extra effort looking after them. Look like Chamomile is a good candidate. The bees love it too.

Another little step for a relationship with nature.. enjoy and God bless!

Art Of Earth, Passion Fruits on Vine, Ballpoint

It's the third year the plant is in production. I've noticed this year, the plant have more fruits than last year.

My favourite Xmas decoration! I've just discovered these green passion fruits look like decoration on xmas tree! Maybe this is where the ball shape xmas decoration idea come from. Can't help but looking at them. They are my favourite decoration! After summer, I can taste them with a spoon! It becomes my favourite plant.

Sketching them with a cup of hot chocolate drink in a comfort garden seat ... I am not sure whether it is the ballpoint hobby or my imagination of ice cream dessert with passion fruit.. that kept me going .. :-D ..another direct sketch for "From My Garden Seat" Series .. my little step to develop a natural relationship with nature..

A good relationship with nature will surely give some comfort for the rough road ahead with climate change! Enjoy!

A MORNING IN THE WOODS, Watercolor Painting Landscapes, Auckland, New Zealand

I love the feeling of being in the forest with great old trees.  While we were painting, a walker came and sat with a dog.  He picked up a stick and threw to get the dog playing.  But the dog refused.  Dogs were not allowed in the woods.  The dog owner called the dog to come to him.  The dog did not come.  It went to the edge of the woods and started calling!  The dog loves the woods so much that it calls out loud “ Woof! Woof!... I want to go into the woods!”.  I think that’s what I heard.  Among mature NZ natives of Dingle Dell is a beautiful cabbage tree.  The green leave curtains of willow trees give great light effect.  It's another enjoyable en plein air experience!

SURPRISED PROPOSAL FROM YOUNG CRICKET, Watercolor Black White Gray Insects, Flowers and Plants

My final Black White Gray world is a dream!.  It's a fancy bedtime story by myself.
One day, Young Cricket set off for an adventure. He could not fly yet so he climbed and he hopped. Soon he found himself in an amazing world of flowers. There he met an amazing creature. He thought she was an angel. It's even better than that she was real, a real butterfly. He was shocked, he was amazed, then finally he proposed something. I could not hear what he said. I could not hear what she said. But I saw the butterfly was taken aback, her tummy dropped and she nearly fell off the sky. I did not know what happened next or after that. I know since then life of Young Cricket would never be the same. He looked at the sky a lot. A day dreamer, so all other crickets said. With that story, I fell asleep. The dark sky, the dark in the painting make your eyes seek dark. So they close and your mind seek a passage into dream. This painting gave me a good sleep!. A surprise treat! it's another secret of painting that I found. Hope the story explains the composition, the color choice and the painting technique!...Oh I also found black watercolor is softer than ink. Try black and white painting, it might be the sleep therapy without medication!

DRAGON FLIES AND THE SWAMP CHASE, Watercolor Black White Gray Insects and Plants

I painted this picture from imagination and observation.  I live near a swarm reserve.  I love the tropical heat, the breeze of summer and I imagine the dragon flies of my childhood.  Obviously they're always there!  Just look at them!... like fighter jets on a chase!  Painting this picture made me realized my childhood walks with me every time!

COSMOS AND THE BUTTERFLIES, Watercolor Painting and Drawing Insects and Flowers

What can a butterfly see?  Leaves, buds, flowers, seeds, coming and going are all the excitement of a flower garden life cycle and the butterflies with wings like flying petals!  I tried to see beauty beyond colors.  The other reason was I wanted to put more and more like life in the garden in abundant and does not have an end.  Everything in a A4 size.  Amazing what a small piece of paper can contain!  The whole world of the butterflies with all intricate details!  I think the picture summarizes the butterfly vision! :-)

DAMSELFLIES IN THE WILD, Watercolor Painting and Drawing Insects, Plants

Emerge in the summer grass were wild flowers and transparent wings.  In the breeze, the damselflies managed their delicate balance.  That's how I remember them.  The delicate gray tone was used to depict the light effect in the field.  I also tried to show how delicate damselflies naturalize themselves in the environment.  I loved the rare minutes to be alone in the field with them.  After I painted them I knew they were always be with me somehow.  That's probably the reason, my brush chose the damselflies instead of others! :-)

DAMSELFLIES ON BAMBOO, Watercolor Painting Insects

Tiny damselflies were my childhood favorite.  They took me into imagination.  Watching them help to relieve stress and relate to nature with their liveliness.  I painted them with my imagination and bamboo bush outside the window.

THE GRAPE VINE, Watercolor and Pen Drawing and Painting Plantscape

I love to look at grapes on a rambling vine.  I came back with the best bunch of grapes that I could afford and created another piece, free hand no pencil, no rubber just a pen and a brush to be consistent with the other previous two.  This one looks tasty!

THE VINE, Watercolor and Pen Drawing and Painting Plantscape

Extracting the colors out of the object, monotone drawing and painting expose the essence of the scene.  Turning the color analysis function in my mind off, what left of the vine were lines, shape, light and shade.  The elegance I found in nature after hours sitting in sun light.  The  interchange of light and shade, negative and positive, front light, side light, back light and reflective light.  It was an enjoyable experience!

LADYBIRD ON SPIDER PLANT (1), Watercolor Drawing and Painting Nature, Plants, Insects

I gently scooped a ladybird and put her on a spider plant and quietly observed her under a magnify glass.  Knowing where she was, I made a mental note on her position on the paper.  I did not want to dent the surface of untouched watercolor paper with pencil or eraser.  Fully aware that the brush mark would be permanent, I meditated for a minute then set go.  With a synthetic brush and diluted watercolor ivory black on a palette, I started with the lightest leaves first then went darker.  I pressed the dry brush down real hard to get the light effect on part of the leaves that bent toward the light.  Then I added the ladybird and the stem.  It was an enjoyable exercise.  I started another...before let her go back into the garden!

CORN FIELD PRINCESS, Pen Watercolor Painting Drawing Figure Fine Art

Another work from imagination.  Every summer, fresh corns are my favorite treat.  As I peel the leaves off, the corn seed made my eyes glow.  I thought it was a childish thing.  It will go away with time but it did not.  So I did this drawing and painting right out of my head as part of the confession that I love corn!  the look and the taste ignite my imagination...Somewhere in the corn field, there's a princess.  When she came, the corns line up and bow to her.  The birds flap around to greet her!  She's the Corn Field Princess!

RED BLOSSOM FOREVER, Pen and Watercolor Drawing and Painting Figure FineArt

I had an old red blossom in the garden.  It has sharp thorns.  I like the tree when it sheds leaves and has flowers.  Where I grew up I had never had a chance to live with anything green.  Let's alone a garden.  A red blossom tree is definitely out of reach.  Thank to the love of gardening of the local I got one at last.  To understand the love of the red blossom in many cultures, I used to put my head into the tree to feel the buzz of the blossom.  I grew fond of it. Every time when I pull my head out of the tree, there were millions of kisses in the air.  Then I look at the flowers they were lipstick red.  They look like the kisses!!  Love is in the air!  You might have noticed the air is always fresher in the garden!!

THE RARE ORCHID, Pen and Watercolor Drawing, Painting Figure, Fineart

I used to admire the beauty of the orchid in the garden center.  I always wish to spend an eternity to look at them but it was not possible.  This admiration went into my subconsciousness One day I sat with a piece of drawing paper then I set go.  With my mind I drew with a pen and a brush because I wanted the fine, crisp details that can only be created by non- eraser-rubbed surface and the ink or watercolor.  I wanted the fine sophisticated details and I wanted a tone of them without muddling them up.  I wanted to retain the delicate and freshness of an orchid.  A touch of the pen or the brush.. it's final.  No adjustment! no rubbing! no going back!  I kept going for hours until I felt I needed to stop... I think this describe the technique given to me by the "Rare Orchid".... Enjoy

Occasionally I like to dwelt into a buzz of creating something out of my head.  This pen and watercolor work was done after I came back from a walk.  The wild jasmine and the sea view of the path were so good.  I pulled out a brush and a pen and let go.  Here she is, the princess of the sea!   A day dreamer like me! QUIET WATER, Watercolor Painting Landscape

The seat inside the inland lagoon offers magic silence, not a sound, only the heart beats.  Feel the air, paint the air.  The serene atmosphere of the place was the challenge.  I starred at the sketch, stopped and breathed and imagined several time before jumping into the painting process.  I came out relieved and happy!  I painted the air!  The moment to have and to hold!  The moment of heart and soul!
