NZ STITCH BIRD, Watercolor Painting and Drawing Birds

The stitchbird is a small honeyeater-like bird.  The stitchbird rarely lands on the ground and seldom visits flowers on the large canopy trees favoured by the larger birds like tui and bellbird.  The alert pose was chosen to depict the difficult situation of the stitchbird.  It likes the same food sources, small insects, flowers and fruits, but have to give ways to lager birds.  Instead of putting its feed down and fight for equality, it chooses to feed on lower quality food and live in peace!  somewhere away from the main food source, the ground and the canopy!  In the painting, I gave it a fancy bush to hide!  a secret retreat!
